Super Easy DIY Zebra Mani

This is definitely not a look I would wear all the time, however it was fun while it lasted [about a week]. The good thing about this mani is that the Zebra stripes don't require perfect lines, so it takes the fuss out of striping the nails. The most important part of this mani is making sure your striping color is thin enough. If it's too thick you may have thick, goopy lines on your digits. No bueno. - If you notice your striping polish is a little thick, add a bit of polish thinner (thanks LMV!)
You Will Need:
Base Coat - I used Essie
Base Color - I used "Blue Collar" by Orly
Black Striping Color - It's important to use an actual striping polish like the polish above, as the applicator wand is like a thin, long paintbrush; perfect for striping.
Start by applying your base coat, and allow to dry thoroughly

Paint your nails with two coats of your base color and allow to dry for about 20-30 minutes

"Stripe" your nails as illustrated above; making your way up the entire nail.

Sweep a clear top coat over your nails and allow to dry thoroughly
Enjoy your new nails!

  1. Adding acetone to a polish destroys it. If your polish is too thick you need to add a polish thinner like Seche Restore.

  2. It looks so nice!! I'm definitely going to give it a try. And I absolutely love the base color you selected!

    That GOOD GOOD Blog

  3. That looks really cool. I'm going to try this with a black base polish and white stripes.

  4. Thanks Nikole! I have been LOVING your nail DIYs! I think I will try this one - funky & cute!

  5. Great Job!! This is on my list to try! You do a great pro work, it looks really professional!

  6. I will give that a try.

  7. Great job I tried this with a nail art pen this weekend and it didn't work so well, I think the soft tip of a brush applicator is much better. Thanks for sharing.

  8. What about doing the lines with the hand you don't write with? Lol.

  9. Love love love and adore. My hands are way too shaky to do this myself, but I may take the pic to the salon (totally defeating the purpose of the DIY). Lol

  10. Love it! I want to try this ASAP!

  11. I love it! Your nails look nice & healthy by the way.

  12. I love it because its so simple but makes a big effect. I never use base coat, maybe I should start because your nails look great.

  13. This post came right on time!! I've been seeing so many fly divas with the zebra print on their nails and I'm like "How did they do that??". I was thinking about grabbing up some of the Sephora by OPI Chic Prints appliques but this a great budget-friendly fix. Thanks love!
