Product Review: Bee Hold Curly Hair Butter

[This is my hair w/the Bee Mine Product]

I went pudding and butter happy a few weeks ago for a few reasons; (1) I wanted to test the market a bit because I was becoming frustrated with my curls [or lack thereof], and (2) I wanted to do some product review's for all of you. If any of you are like me, when you hear the word pudding, custard, curling cream, or butter, your hands start to itch as you fight the urge to pull out that credit card and place an order. Some of them are lackluster, and some of them have rightfully earned their keep in the staple department.

Bee Hold Curly Hair Butter [$12.97 8oz]
Ingredients: 100% Shea Butter, 100% Aloe Vera Gel, Essential Oil Blend, Vegetable Glycerin, Rosemary Leaf and Chammomile Extract, Silk Powder and Perfume

I ordered Bee Mine [Bee Hold Curly Hair Butter] and received the product approximately 6 days later, which isn't bad. I used Bee Mine Curly Butter for a twist out, and I was satisfied with the results. I use the word satisfied because this product didn't blow me away. Yes, there was slight definition there; however I had a bit more shrinkage than normal, and my hair didn't feel AS soft, and AS big as it normally is. Actually; as the days passed by, I found myself having to reach for a very thick moisturizer because my hair started to feel a little drier than usual.

Would I buy this product again; I am a little on the fence about it. I want to try it out a few more times before I rule it out. I think I may try it on a braid out instead. I definitely like that the ingredients are natural [a big plus], and I love how fast it got to my doorstep. However the biggest issue for me was the shrinkage, and the "dry" feeling my hair had 3-4 days later.

I should also point out that my hair is not really a fan of Shea Butter, which might be one of the reasons it didn't agree with my hair. If your hair loves Shea Butter, this might be a hit for you.

  1. YOu are not alone. My hair is not a huge fan of shea butter either. It likes shealoe though but there has be an equal or higher amount of aloe vera gel to shea butter or I can guarantee my hair will come out greasy.

  2. I'm unsure how I feel about shea butter. I gave up on it a while ago, but I just purchased some shealoe to experiment with for my skin and braidouts, etc.

  3. I just bought this the other day, and tried it on my hair. All I can say is yuck. I didn't even get through my whole head, I had to wash it out immediately. I really wanted to like this one, especially since I've heard rave reviews. I just may try this one more time, but for now, I definitely will not be buying this again.

  4. Well i must say i am not a fan of bee mine products. It does not give me the braid out or twist out curl or wave that i like. To me the product smells so good but would i buy it again, NO. It is a good thing i brought the samples.

  5. I love Bee Mine products. I have used several items from their line and have been equally impressed with all of them. That being said, I, too, find the Bee Hold Curly Butter lackluster as a stand alone product. However, for those that didn't receive the results they were expecting (shine, softness, moisture, and definition), try using the Bee Mine Luscious Balanced Cream Moisturizer before/under the Bee Hold Curly Butter. That two-punch combo is fantastic.

My hair is ridiculously soft and hydrated; has incredible shine, not-to-mention, the definition I have on those rare days when I wear a twist out. The only negative (for some naturals) is the shrinkage. Your hair will shrink up. Well, mine does but that does not bother me because I like shrinkage. HTH!!

  6. The Komaza recipe is so easy to make by myself. I just use coconut oil and shea butter for elongated twist outs. Sometimes I add aloe vera gel. It's cheaper to buy those ingredients instead of spending $20-$40 for a 8 oz pudding.

  7. @Aisling is correct. The Bee Hold Curly Hair Butter won't leave the hair soft and moisturized. It is an oil-based product, and not a water-based product. The first ingredient is unrefined shea butter, and not water. So, naturally, it won't be moisturizing. One would need to use a water-based product prior to using the Curly Hair Butter.
