Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream Review

I get a lot of questions on how I use my Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, and why I LOVE it so much. So I decided to write a quick review in hopes that I can help others that may have the same question.

I went out and bought a sample size of this product from Ulta ($9.00 for 1.6 oz), after hearing Michelle Obama's stylist raving about it in a magazine interview. Granted he works for Frederic Fekkai in Los Angeles, and stylists almost always rep the brands they work for, so I was a little skeptical. At the time I was wearing my hair pressed, so I was desperate to find something to add sheen and softness, without weighing my hair down.

I like to apply most styling [Chi Silk Infusion, Rusk Polisher, etc] products in WET hair, I get better coverage, and the products don't just "sit" on my hair like they do if I were to apply it to dry hair.

So with that being said, I used my normal leave-in condish, then I added dime sized portions of the glossing cream to each section of my hair [I had 4 sections]. This made my hair soft instantaneously, I was impressed, but the real test would come after the blowdry and press. I know a product is good if my hair is still silky, smooth, and soft after blow drying and pressing my hair. Below are a couple of pics, the first one is my hair pressed and set on Caruso Steam Rollers, the second pic is my hair after blow drying.

[Both pics were taken during two different styling sessions]

The Good:
  • This product delivers consistent results every time I use it.
  • There are multiple uses; You can use it throughout the week as a moisturizer. You can use it to pull your hair back in a sleek ponytail. You can use this as a light setting agent for sleek, shiny, braid outs, and twist outs.
  • I get shiny, soft, manageable hair with tons of body!
  • The results stick around for days not hours like other styling products
  •  It is widely available on ground in most professional beauty supplies, and stores like Ulta, and Sephora.
  • You can try the $9 bottle before you make the $27 splurge
  • Because you don't need much to achieve results, it lasts for a long time. [I had my 1.6oz bottle for 6 months]
 The Bad:
  • At $27 this stuff is pretty costly compared to similar stylers.
  • The ingredients are the type that are hard to pronounce, which generally means they are synthetic. The opposite of au natural.
  • The second ingredient is SILICONE! [which could mean some serious build-up if you aren't careful]
Restock?
Most definitely [and I don't say that a lot], I actually made the splurge last week on the $27 bottle.

  4. I know this post is old, but i am new to your amazing site!!! But I would like to know what is a good flat iron to use if you weekly use heat on natural hair? I currently use the chi turbo because of the adjustable heat settings.

  5. I've heard so many great things about this product that I went ahead and about the 4oz bottle from Ulta for $23. I also grabbed the 4oz Fekkai Luscious Curls Cream. I'm excited to try both of these... an added bonus - - Ulta had a free gift if you bought any 2 Fekkai items, so I got a 1oz travel size bottle of the glossing cream! So excited to take this on the road with me.

  6. @ssebonynyc Why yes I will!

@South Loop Social Light I wanted to try the Luscious Curl Cream as well, let me know how that works. I think you will love the Glossing Cream, your hair is already super shiny, and this product will intensify it to the 3rd power.
    - I may have to drop into Ulta this week...I hid their weekly flyer because I didn't want to spend any money....but apparently I can't run from it...lol

  7. @Anonymous I honestly use the old school flat iron [the kind you have to put in the oven] - For weekly use a Chi is a very good brand, I would just make sure to use minimal heat passes [1-2 passes per section] since you are using it weekly. Also keeping up on your trims [as needed] will help with length retention.

  8. I know I'm really late, but I am just in LOVE with your hair in every way, and I especially love the way you can achieve such wonderful results and still maintain your natural pattern.
Did you use any additional heat protectant besides the glossing cream? Or just your regular leave-in and this?

  9. Wow, absolutely gorgeous results. Are you going to do a tutorial on the look pictured above anytime this month/soon? I would love to know how to achieve that look (seeing I have heated curlers that I barely ever use).

  10. Just a heads up, I found the Fekkai line in Target. I picked up the Glossing Creme and the Color-Protecting Glaze, which I plan on using as soon as I try out your henna gloss & indigo treatment! I'm excited! Thanks for putting another curly onto a great product:)

(They were $21 each...a little less than Ulta, and they also offer other products from the line, as well as a 'Glossing Starters Kit', which includes the shampoo, conditioner and creme.....
