After looking at this pic, I'm thinking about attempting a roller-set. [source]
We all have those products we banish to the back of our cupboard. The ones we bought with high hopes yet didn't live up to our expectations. If you are looking for ways to make use out of those products but don't know where to start, this post is for you!
All these ingredients can be found online via the same online retailer [I hyperlinked each ingredient for your convenience], and added to your favorite or not-so favorite products. The amounts specified are for full 8-12oz bottles of product. Read on for the deets!
Panthenol:

Guar Silk:
Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein:
Argan Oil: Although Argan Oil has been around for ages, it's popularity sky rocketed over the last few years due to manufacturing companies on the hunt for "exotic" ingredients to add "label appeal". These ingredients are usually marketed as "exotic", "rare" or "ancient secrets" and while effective, are usually a ploy to get more money from the consumers.
You can purchase your own argan oil from a reputable vendor that deals in raw ingredients to make sure you are actually getting 100% Argan Oil. Not the Soybean Oil + Argan Oil mix that is available on most of the cosmetic counters. Add Argan Oil to your favorite conditioner, shampoo and leave-in to add shine, softness and increase combability. About a 1/4 teaspoon per application should suffice.

Love it thanks I had my stylist use the morroccan oil on my hair with a steamer which made it feel silky smooth, the only problem is the argon oil was way down on the list of ingredients so I'm going to whole foods to make it myself :)
ReplyDeleteShould you add these ingredients directly to the shampoo or conditioner bottle or mix individual applications in a small bottle using the sizes you indicated?
ReplyDeleteYes Argan oil is amazing. I have been using in many of my not so good DC and it truly transforms them. I love to pre poo with it too. Never heard of Guar silk sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI tried to find guar silk on the internet and I couldnt find it anywhere
ReplyDeleteIt's so funny that you're doing a post about silk amino acids cuz I was just on the lotioncrafer website the other day looking for some Silk Amino Acid to add to my products. Even before I knew about proper natural/curly hair care I noticed that Silk Amino Acids were very beneficial to my hair. Pretty much all of my favorite products had this ingredient in common.
ReplyDeleteSuave Naturals Coconut Conditioner has silk amino acids in it and I love it! I now use Suave Coconut Conditioner as part of my pre-poo mix with EVOO, and as a spritz leave in conditioner with water and extra virgin coconut oil.

...I found this post beyond informative - thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteAlways informative. Great information.
ReplyDeleteLove the Post! Have never heard of these ingredients and I am always on the run for something new to mix. So this post is perfect. I just wonder where on the internet I can find these ingredients!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Products...I needed to place a Lotioncrafter order anyway. You can add 1-3 drops of SAA to your mascara and your lashes will grow crazy long. Much better than that Latisse stuff.
ReplyDeleteVery helpful post! If you do a roller set, could you please do a tutorial? I am still trying to great a good roller set.
ReplyDeleteCuidado with the panthenol!! Too much can actually damage your hair. It can be corrosive. Didn't know that till a creator of hair stuff told me.
ReplyDeleteThis may seem a bit off topic, but it kind of relates. How do you sterilize your containers when reusing them or buying them from the store? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteyou can sterilize with isopropyl alcohol.
ReplyDeleteArgan oil and baobab extract (not mentioned but popping up everywhere) are from trees on the international endangered species list. PLEASE do not buy argan oil/baobab extract products! Be a responsible naturalista.
