Sponsored Giveaway: Rachel Stewart Jewelry

I love supporting trendsetters in our community that stay true to themselves whilst creating their dynamic blueprint. Rachel's adornments are unique, handcrafted, and most importantly Recessionista-friendly.- Oh and the hair? You know I love the hair!

Just a little over a year ago, Rachel Stewart began fashioning accessories and hasn't looked back since!

On how she started:
"I started making jewelry a little over a year ago, I started with making peacock feather earrings and selling them on my blog. They got a lot of attention so I figured I would try to make more things and since then I've evolved and the business has really taken off. I hope to venture into purses and shoes in the next few years."
On her philosophy:
"I love making jewelry that speaks to ME. Major jewelry designers don't have us in mind when it comes to jewelry, we really need to support each other."
Up for grabs is my favorite piece from her collection, Rachel Stewarts Afro Disco Earrings [$40 value]! Here's what you need to do in order to be eligible:
  • You must be a follower of this blog
  • Like Rachel Stewarts Facebook Fan Page
  • Answer the following question in the comments; "In your opinion, who had the most memorable afro [its ok if you pick the same person as another commenter]"
The giveaway will run until September 20th 11:59 PST

Here are more of my favorites from her shop!

  2. Diana Ross and her daughter Tracie Ross. Now I know Tracie's is real but rather Diana's was or wasnt,it was still FIERCE!!! Cant wait till I can mimic that with my hair.

  3. My favorite afro will always be the afro of Angela Davis. As revolutionary as she was as a political figure, I think her image still represents the confidence that the fro represents today!

  4. The most memorable afro comes from The Sylvers. They had the hugest afros ever! "Hot line, hot line. I'm calling on the hot line, for your love, for your love (clap clap)."

  5. There are many, but for some reason, everytime I see or think of afros, Angela Davis comes to mind.

  6. I think that Erykah Badu has the best afro! Even though it was a wig

  7. of the times, back in the day, the only 'fro i remember is don cornellius from the re-runs of soul train... lol... it was so perfect like the foam on a microphone... but, as fierce ladies of the 70's... pam grier as foxy brown, tamara dobson as cleopatra jones and diana ross... and my mom (her's was real)!

  8. Chaka Khan's afro in the 70's was the business! It wasn't completely round, but it looked lush nonetheless.

  9. Foxy Brown had the best fro...can't forget about Angela Davis... I even liked Florida Evans's fro from Good Times! LOL! Anybody from the movie Carwash...hands down!

  11. As far as 'fros go, Ms. Angela Davis is an ICON. Her Lfro is equally as if not more famous then her polital andsocial involvements in the 60s and 70s. Her fro is the one that many twa want to grow up to be. Lol I'm also digging Esperanza Spalding's really cute fro.

  12. I've already been a fan of Rachel Stewart's jewelry but haven't had it in the budget to purchase any pieces just yet. Anyway, on to the question...for me I'd have to go with Michael Jackson during his younger(pre-pubescent) Jackson Five years. It was so neat and symmetrical. I loved it!

  13. I would have to say that Erykah Badu had one of the hottest afros ever. I feel that she was one of the top influences for the modern day reign of the "afro" or natural look!

    Angela Davis

  16. The two divas Chaka Khan and Diana Ross IMMEDIATELY came to mind for nominations of most memorable fro. As far as modern day fros go...my picks are Jill Scott (pre-relaxer/flat-iron/protein treatment or whatever it is) and Leela James...drool, lol

  17. Jill Scott...I absolutely love it!!!! Was kinda ticked off that they had her in that ugly wig in Why Did I Get Married 2...her hair represents her...She shows how the non-size-6 chicas represent with our fros and keep it sexy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I would have to say Pam Grier/Foxy Brown. I think she was the first famous woman I saw with an afro. I saw her movies on BET when they used to play the hit 70s movies. Even at a young age I knew she was fly!!

  27. I have to say the Pam Grier fro. My parents would play movies from the 70's all the time at the house. I remember her big hair, sexy curves and take no crap attitude! I feel sexy and powerful when I rock mine.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have to say: Erykah Badu..She sports her afro with funk and eco style. Her hair makes a statment all by itself. She is a fashionista from head to toe.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would have to say: Michael Jackson! As a child, I loved watching him perform and couldn't take my eyes off his magnificent hair!

  30. Tracie Ross is definitely one of my hair-spirations :) It just looks so healthy and full--it's not a traditional fro but it's inspiring!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'd have to say Pam Grier aka Foxy Brown, she just made the afro look sexy and bad ass lol

the most iconic afro for me is marsha hunt's. she just looks like the ultimate badass in the photos of her on stage. she was so fabulous, mick jagger wrote a song, although a kind of offensive one, about her.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Whenever I think of Afro I think of Pam Grier as foxy brown...I loved her afro!

  41. Foxy Brown in the 70's. Chaka Khan had some awesome hair back in the 70's and 80's. I'm actually dressing as her for Halloween this year. Woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  42. When I think of a fierce afro, I think of ANGELA DAVIS! She is just so inspirational!! I do second Pam Grier because every time I see her old movies I just want to take a karate class and kick someone's butt. I also loved the Sesame Street cartoon of the little girl who went to the store for "a loaf of bread, a container of milk and a stick of butter" that is the 1st time I saw an afro on TV and I was so excited!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Franklin Ajaye from carwash, dudes fro was fierce! Then Pam Grier.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like Questlove's afro from the Roots. Its as bangin' as his drum beats.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have to go with Sugarfoot from the Ohio Players. No matter what he did, it always hung to the side in defiance. His natural put a new spin on FUNKY!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have to step outside the box for a minute and say every woman with an afro is a memorable experience, include Rachels (the picture with the red feathered earrings) but if I had to choose I would say it was this person...

I was having a difficult time with my hair and after seeing this photo I remembered WHY I went natural in the first place. She definitely has the MOST memorable Afro and the best part is its ALL HERS.
