Remember that "fluke" I mentioned in this post [I also used the product here as well]? I ran out of products to twist with last week, and in a fit of desperation ran to my cabinet to pull out my Eco Styler Gel [which I normally use for wash & go's]. I wanted to thoroughly test this product before running through the halls professing my love for it in case I had a wild stroke of luck the first few times around. However the jury is in, and here are the deets...
Twisting with Eco Styler yields more of a defined curl for me coupled with a nice sheen and a bit of softness [due to the high amount of glycerin]. My curls last longer before turning into waves and as the days pass, my hair hangs a lot lower which I love. I will admit I was a tad scared because as the twists dried, my hair had a "crunchy" feeling. After taking the twists down and fluffing my hair, the feeling quickly dissipated and I was left with cushiony soft coils.
I noticed that I had more elongation using this product vs my other stylers, which is a plus for the days I want length + volume. The key to getting the best out of this product is using a hydrating conditioner underneath to ensure your hair remains soft and moisturized [Paul Mitchell The Conditoner is a good choice as is Oyin Honey Hemp]. I use about a dime size amount of gel for each 1" section of hair I twist, then I let it air dry overnight. The result is an ultra defined twist out with minimal shrinkage and lots of volume. Setting my twists with Eco Styler yields about a 5-6 day style.
Given these points, I will definitely continue to use Eco Styler Gel. It is cost effective, alcohol free, easy to find, and a little goes a long way.

i've tried EcoStyler for my braid outs and the first 2-3 days are fine but then the gel starts to flake. Perhaps I'm using more than a dime size amount, your results have encouraged me to try again.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
P.S. Fabulous blog...seriously.
I love this product, it is my fave and will always be a staple in my home. :) I like the Olive Oil version the best.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried or heard of it before, but if it gives length and volume, i am there :)
ReplyDeleteI have to try the olive oil kind! yourock
ReplyDeleteI have olive oil eco styler gel but I use it for wash and go. I will try it on my twist out.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Califia! I just bought eco styler yesterday. So far it's a bit crunchy for me. I love what it did for your hair though!
ReplyDeleteI must try this stuff, everyones talking about it.
ReplyDeletewhat brand and color lipstick is that you are wearing? I am about your complexion and am in dire need of that lip color?

Very cool. You got great results with it. I've tried it with wash n gos and my results weren't that great. Very crunchy, but I might not have been using a thick or creamy enough conditioner underneath it to get great bouncy results. I think I have some left so I'm going to try this one tonight.
ReplyDeleteI swear by this fantastic product!!!

Thanks so much Nicole! I'm so grateful I won!!! I have definitely got to try the Eco Styler Gel. @Hell Notes for Beauty- I really needed to try some new stuff for my hair so I'm so glad I won. I'm keeping an eye on that blog of yours too. You and Nicole have some wonderful amazing tips and advice!
ReplyDeletemoptop, do you air dry your hair or use a dryer? my hair never dries overnight so i end up with frizz in the morning. do you leave your hair twisted a long time or truly overnight? is it not very damp when you twist?
ReplyDeleteI once used ecostyler and my hair was very stiff and definitely not soft....Now I use a mix of aloe vera and shea butter for my twists and that seems to last between 4 -6 days.
ReplyDeleteI simply love ecostyler gel for both my twists outs and for when I do slicked back hairbuns!
ReplyDeleteNatural products are always cheaper, and usually better... You don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a well marketed product, just for the heck of it...

your hair looks great!
ReplyDeleteI tried this gel before and I liked how it gave my hair great definition with my twist-outs but it made my scalp flake and itch terribly so I stopped using it. Instead I use Aloe Vera Gel and it works just as well.

I'm learning so much here! thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCheers Lady! That is one hot cobalt blue dress!!! For my money, you are so on the money!
ReplyDeleteI actually tried this but with shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie and eco styler gel in a twist out.. The only thing is I get a lot shrinkage when my hair is wet..(which I hate) For yourself I see that you don't experience much shrinkage at all when wet..
ReplyDeleteHey Nikole!! Quick question: how did you cut your bangs?? A tutorial would be NICE!! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteI did a twist out with this gel on Friday. It worked wonderfully! A little crispy as it dries but becomes soft when you take it out. I used Yes to Carrots as a leave in conditioner... mmm it smells so good lol. Thanks!
