Eco Styler Wash & Go Tutorial

[the vid is still processing so quality will SUCK for a while]

The jury is still out on whether or not I like this tutorial, so I may do another one in the future. You will notice I did not use a leave-in, and that is because it really makes it hard for my hair to curl. I have "curl pattern issues", it has the potential to get curly, but only after some serious cooing, and coddling. For some strange reason my hair in it's uber natural state has the texture of a light blowout, I have never had much of a curl pattern.

To keep the hair soft after using tons of gel, I added 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil to my water bottle. This helps keep my hair soft, and give it a little sheen as well! As you can see in the finished product, my hair doesn't really get super big with Eco Styler, but I am still satisfied with the results. This by far has been the best product for bringing out my inner curly. I am now able to get second-day hair, and during the second day it has been known to puff up twice it's size. I do have to "reactivate" it with a little water for it to behave, but it only takes about 5 minutes. I just saturate my hair with water, shake, and let the curls find each other. That's it, no finger styling for me. When I finger style, it is OVER. lol

Enjoy!!!!

  1. great video! Have you ever tried using a diffuser on your hair. I have been doing some youtube research on that over the past fews weeks but i haven't tried it yet. I'm just interested in seeing what results will come from that v.s your version of the wash n go.

  6. HI! I am new to your blog, and you tube channel and am falling in love with both! I had to stop after the last sentence of the first paragraph this post and go straight to comment. As far as your hair texture is concerned, I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE! I have been natural for a year now and although I know every curl, kink, and coil is unique and every person is different,I am still always on the lookout for someone who's texture I can relate to. Your braid outs look just like mine(when I was relaxed, and had that same length). After I cut it, I thought the natural hair would have some kind of pattern to it, but, no. A light blow out is the perfect description to what's growing out of my scalp. No real kink, curl, or coil in sight. Just sorta loose waviness, dripping wet, like I started to blow dry, but didn't finish. Now, I'm going back to the post and continue to read and watch. This particular post is right on time as I just purchased Eco for the first time I was about to trash it. Thanks for all of the work you do on this blog and your videos! Oh, I love your DIY too! There are a few thing I have been inspired to try. Thanks! (sorry for the long comment)

  8. @SEWING STARDOM I tried it last night. Lets just say I went to bed with a 14 inch afro that was not cute. LOL I may have to try it again with a different product.

@South Loop Social Light Thank you! The only place I found this was @ Sally's!

@About Mrs Jaye Try it using that technique in the video! That's the ONLY way all of my hair will curl up.

@Ms. Princess You are welcome!!! Thank you for watching!

@Mrs. Denga That isn't a problem at all! I appreciate it actually!

@Anonymous It's funny because I thought I WAS THE ONLY ONE. I hardly ever see naturals with hair like mine, so yeah..it's pretty hard.

I appreciate the love! Thank you very much for stopping by!

@Afribeauty No problem! Thank you for watching!

  10. My hair has 3a-3b curls at the temple, crown and nape that are easily defined (every now and then I have random pieces of hair that curl up...) the rest of my hair looks like a kinky blowout...I should try this technique. I don't brush my hair dry, I detangle when wet with condtioner, rinse, IT ALWAYS STILL PUFFS UP! Tip I learned for hard to define hair, the homemade coconut cream relaxer (see mahoganyknots on youtube) leaving out the concentrate actually silkens and defines my hair!

  11. Also I might add sometimes people ask if I straightened my hair, and some people say, "oh it's so pretty I've never seen it like that" lol, I'm so glad to finally find someone who has kinky blowout hair like me! Althought *if* my curls did define they wouldn't be that curly...*sighs*...BUT I WILL GIVE IT A TRY! So cold water...hmmm

  12. Your technique is the best I've seen. I just finished doing it and I can actually rock a Wash and Go for the first time ever. Thanks!!!

I did try it, and I had like loose waves, it would have been curlier but the gel weighed my hair down, oh and it wouldn't dry!

  16. Hey Nikole!
First let me say that all your hair tutorials are amazing. I just started watching them and I cannot stop...:p.
I have two questions for you...
1/ Your hair looks amazing and I cannot hep but notice the health of your ends...Do you cut them or dust them? and is yes, what technique do you use and how often?

2/Other than drooling over the beauty of your hair, I noticed that your skin is so clear. Any tips or products you might recommend?

I am always on the look out for new products, tips, DIY, advices to help me take care of my hair and body :)

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work. I LOVE your blog ^_^

  17. Sorry I just realized you had already posted your skin care routine regimen.

    So discard that question :p

  18. *singing in my head "you are not alone, i am here with you..."*

Its nice to find people with similar hair types...I know I am frequently scouring hair blogs and videos thinking - my hair most definitely does not look like that straight out the shower - it actually looks like yours, poufy, wavy-ish is how I would describe it...curl? not so much! So thanks for the helpful vids on behalf of your "light blow out" texture sistren :o)

  19. @Brown Babe!! LOLLL Glad to know I am not alone! It's RARE that I come across people with a hair type similar to mine!

  20. Nice tutorial, but I was wondering if you condition your hair before or after you do this? Also my hair does curl after I wash it so would this technique make it curlier?

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Sarita; IF I condition, I would do this prior to doing the wash and go. It would definitely make it curlier [It's hard to define my curls].

  22. Another person who just found your blog (via curly nikki) and am happy to have found someone with my same hair texture posting vids! I've tried so many products, techniques etc. thinking I was missing that magic something. I will def be following you in the future :)

  23. Well....about 1/4 of my hair is similar to yours(not much of a curl pattern, light blow out look) and it's on the right side of my head so no way of hiding/cover up this small section. The rest of my hair is full of curls therefore i can't do wash-n-go's. I wish it was one or the other all over (or at least close to the same)
