This week we have a fabulous giveaway sponsored by Wasijuru!! Looking for a scarf to compliment your TWA, spruce up your pony, or make the perfect accent piece to a twist-out or braid-out? Enter this giveaway! I love supporting African American artisans, and this week we have another talented artist who named her collection after her late grandmother.
When asked about the collection she stated:
After cutting her hair in 2008, the designer searched stores for quality, chic, yet affordable scarves. The search proved futile, a niche was discovered, and the WASIJIRU line was born.
WASIJIRU is named after the designer's late grandmother and translates to "self confidence" ... or "believing in one's self". This line accentuates the natural confidence in a woman where it counts the most ... her hair.
Up for grabs is a silk hand-rolled scarf that can be worn numerous ways! The contest will run until October 11th 11:59PM PST. Here are the eligibility requirements:
- Answer the following question in the comment section below: How do you wear your confidence?

ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence like my favorite pair of underwear: close to me and delicate, yet strong. Only I need to know I have it on.
ReplyDeleteUggh that's tough. Sometimes honestly I don't - wear my confidence that is. It's hard some days to reach deep down on a groggy sleepy morning and wake myself up re-puff my afro, de-frizz and get out the door only to walk into the office where frankly there just aren't a lot of folks who look like me. What jump starts me is my intellect and that's what I wear on my shoulder and rock like it's a new Gucci! Now I like sporting a pair of fly saddle boots or a cute frilly blouse with the rest of them. But honestly when I'm at my most confident is when I know I can mentally arm wrestle anyone around me on the economy, poverty, the foreclosure crisis you name it -- this sister is well read and knows her stuff. Frankly when I realize the great intelligence that God gave me and I'm really feeling myself - like on those days when I just learned something new from listening to NPR - then my twist out and perfect eye-liner are just icing on top of it.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by attempting to set myself apart from the crowd. That can range from bright eyeliner, combat boots, studying all night to get an A, or wearing my big hair. :)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence like the soul of my ancestors. I am strong, confident, and full of pride in who I am as a woman, mother, fiance, and daughter, and friend.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in the form of colors! It's pretty easy to tell when I'm not feeling my best b/c I'm wearing all black or white with very simple accessories. Any other day, I'm decked out in an array of beautifully complimentary colors. The more I'm feeling myself, the bolder the colors and the more of them! I love pops of color in my jewelry or hair accessories so that I can wear super big hair (another show of confidence)!! Blame the Southern Girl in me!
ReplyDeleteEver since I had my bc my confidence has been higher than it has ever been. I have never felt so beautiful and strong than I do now with my hair in it's natural state. I wear crocheted headbands and bows when ever I do a twist out and I rock a wash and go the rest of the time. why ? because my hair is one of my favorite accessories, I intend on keeping my 4a spirals, and I love to talk hair to other naturals or transitioners I may come across. maybe people with relaxed hair will see mine and want to make the change, just like I did last year. :)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by making my own rules. On of the things I've learned from going natural is to define beauty for myself. I am more comfortable with myself than ever because I don't let other people dictate what is beautiful to me.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by matching my beautiful natural smile with my beautiful new natural hair. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in the way I dress. Fashion forward and full of life. POW!
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by dressing like I want, and following my own rules.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence with accessorizing. I love love love big, colorful, and flashy earrings, necklaces, and rings. The bigger the better!!!! No matter where I am or where I am going I always make sure to a have my afro out and my big earrings on :) and I am telling myslef I dont care what you think cause I know I am fly !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my smile. It gives my face an instant makeover and everyone that I share it with feels adored.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my posture. I believe in being poised and feminine; trust me, people take notice.
ReplyDeleteI have always and will continue to wear my confidence by knowing that I am just as worthy, capable and deserving as the next person!
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence with my head held high, knowing that I am uniquely and divinely made. No one can do me like me!
ReplyDeleteIn my walk, the way I talk, my glance, my smile, the way I dress and in my style. I love when heads turn and people stare. I get those looks everywhere. When I get that accomplishment, I know I'm wearing my confidence.
ReplyDeleteSo I wear it bold and fearlessly. After all there is only one me. So why shouldn't I do it Confidently.
Hmm...tough question. I wear my confidence in knowing that no matter where I go there will NEVER be someone who looks like me, natural or not. My confidence shows best when I flash a cheesy smile and *wink* to the fellas who compliment on my 'do of the day. I wear my confidence in my everyday quirky, smart, happy-go-lucky,laid back, BEAUTIFUL, just plain ole different kinda way.
ReplyDeleteI think it varies depending on the day...one day its in my great fitting jeans, some fiece stillettos, my hair,my smile, my walk, or even my knowledge or wisdom some days...I find something that I'm proud of and show it off each day:)
ReplyDeleteWow...great question! I must say I "wear" my confidence through with my presence. Just by being in relationship with self and others around me through everyday experiences...now that is Confidence!
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence from the inside out through my smiling eyes :)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence knowing that I am a child of the most high God. I was created to be peculiar. When I embrace that I subconsciously allow others to do the same.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence with a smile
ReplyDeletei wear my confidence in my knowledge, beauty, friendship and love.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence on my wrist. Nothing smells good than knowing the appropriate time to do it.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence through my faith. Thats the only thing that gets me through a daily basis and it keeps me happy. Always comes through in my faith.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence loud and proud. It's in my clothing, my expression, and especially my hair!
ReplyDeleteHow do I wear my confidence...hmm
ReplyDeleteI do that in smiling even when I dont really feel like it. You never know who is watching and what opportunities it may bring
I wear my confidence in the way that I walk; no longer do I stray away from others. Rather, I greet them with a smile and a hello :)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence on my face when I smile. When I frown. When I laugh. I can never hide my emotions because of my facial expressions. My feelings are always plastered on my face. Everything about me exudes confidence. If I feel it, you see it.
ReplyDeletei wear my confidence on my feet and in my hair... nothing accents a beautiful TWA like great hair accessories and a bad ass pair of pumps!
ReplyDelete"How do you wear your confidence?"
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence every morning that I wake up to a beautiful day that GOD created in my personality & attitude. I have the choice to make the most of my day. So I strive to stay positive, thankful, grateful, and confident in every aspect even when I'm not feeling up to it. How you feel is a choice and that choice is up to you. No one can take that from you.....
I keep a smile on my face and a song in my heart and mind. I know it may sound silly but I always try to have music playing. I listen to it at work, when working out, while surfing the Internet, in the car, etc.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by being "ME" no matter what. True to who I am.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by welcoming every morning with a smile, like an opportunity to complete what I was not abble to finish yesterday.
ReplyDeleteTo wrap my hair I usually use a piece of batik or loin clothes that my mother brought me from Africa, as she said, if you feel unconfident, just wear a piece of colorful clothe, a shinny and remarquable lipstic and enjoy the day !
I wear my confidence in the way I carry myself. I carry myself with positivity, assertion, and power because no matter what I have on or what I'm looking like, deep down I know I'm awesome;)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in the way I carry myself and with a bright smile on my face. My day/circumstances may not be going well, but I know that I can work through it with the knowledge that "this too shall pass."
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my smile. I can smile at someone on the street without knowing them. I'm hoping in me doing that will make a positive change in their day
ReplyDeletei wear my confidence in my walk ;)
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence on my face, expressed through my attitude, felt from my touch. In healthcare, it's sometimes hard to be the positive caregiver when you're having a rough time yourself. But, the caring expressions and positive attitude I lend to everyone I meet goes a long way.
ReplyDelete* I wear my confidence in words I chose to express myself and those around me.
ReplyDelete* I wear my confidence in the choices I make everyday to achieve the best I can.
* I wear my confidence in ways I extend my hands to reach out to others to make them believe in themselves that if someone like me, who was born in one of the poorest nations in the world, can make it, anyone can too.
Whenever I see a black woman – stranger, sibling, celebrity or the like – strutting with a regal distinction, braving to wear a head of hair all her own, or speaking with the confidence that has the power to ignite a movement, I feel an overwhelming surge to utter any number encouraging maxims. “Go Girl!”…“You Betta’ Work!”, and my fav… “That’s right!!!”. How do I wear my confidence? By complimenting and spreading some much needed love and recognition to this vast sisterhood of undyingly ambitious, unbelievably talented, unbeatable underdogs I am so honored to be one of.
ReplyDeleteI read each reply and loved loved all of them, especially Avidreader.
”Y’all betta’ work!!” :)
I know it;s a bit cliche, but my smile is my confidence. When I'm walking down the street, it's nothing for me to pass my smile along to someone who looks down or needs a reminder that all isn't lost.
ReplyDeleteI'd say I wear my confidence all over my smile. Not only do I wear it, but smiling also boosts my confidence, helps me relax and not take myself too seriously. And not taking yourself so seriously is part of the recipe.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my actions! If im having a bad hair day...so what! I will walk out head held high and shoulders erect because confidence is me! (or you just fake it till you make it =P )
ReplyDeleteHow do you wear your confidence?
ReplyDeleteBy the inside out. I love and try to make everyone feel at peace :)
I wear my confidence by building it in others through random acts of kindness and community service. Whenever I give, it makes me more aware and assure of who I am. I wrote these words from a Sam Levenson poem on a mirror I made, "For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone." Seeing and practicing these words daily help me wear my confidence.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence with a pair of PUMPS! Especially in fire engine red.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by knowing that I am unique in the way I am (there's only one me!), the way I dress, the way my hair is textured and finally the way I think :)

ReplyDeleteHow do I wear my confidence?
ReplyDeleteIts in the way I walk
The headnodic sway of my hips
the bag on my shoulder
the shoes on my feet
The crown God has blessed me with,
wild and untamed,
I wear that too
My confidence is in my eyes
that tell my story
they say what I've made it through
And if you're lucky enough to see me smile
You will see my confidence truly shine
Blessed and anointed,
living on purpose.
I wear my confidence proudly from head to toe. It's all in the attitude of knowing who you are. Not allowing others to define you or put you in a box!!!
ReplyDeleteoooo... I wear my confidence like my smile. it's bright, comes from deep within and laced with all my personality, warts and all...
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my eyes and on my smile
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence humbly, beautifully and always with a smile. When you truly understand how blessed you are and appreciate all that you have been given, you can smile and appreciate all that you are and all that you have been given with the utmost confidence.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my eyes. They smile at everyone with an open inquisitive sparkle that shines through.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence by saying to myself that in the end its only my opinion of myself that matters. And I know that I'm a wonderful person.
ReplyDeleteI wear my confidence in my heart as I use that to make my toughest decision each day...to continually stay humble. The many simple blessings I have been granted should always reflect in my thoughts and actions..
